Saving money can be very difficult. Many people just manage to get by on their current family incomes. Once all of the bills have been paid there can be very little money left over at the end of the month.
For those people who live pay cheque to pay cheque, the idea of saving money might seem beyond their capabilities. However, it is even more important for people on low to moderate incomes to think about saving money.
The question people might ask themselves is "How can I save money on a tight budget?" It is not easy but it is possible. There are certain techniques that can help with the task. The following are a few ideas that can help you save money:
1. Kick the Starbucks habit. A cup of coffee should never cost that much money. There are plenty of other coffee shops that make excellent coffee at half the price. The west coast Starbucks allure is not worth the 3-4 dollars you are going to drop on a cup of coffee.
2. Brown bag it. Bring your own lunch to work. If you cannot seem to find the discipline to make your own lunch at least try to semi-brown bag it. Buy a case of juice boxes when you see them on sale and stick them under your desk. Instead of paying $1.50 for a mid-day drink, grab a juice box and pocket over $1 in savings.
3. Try to leave your credit cards and money at home. Having a little extra money in your pocket means you will spend that little extra money. A cup of coffee, a chocolate bar, and a newspaper can burn through $10 pretty fast. Over the course of a week it can amount to $70 and over the course of a year you can whittle through thousands of dollars and have nothing to show for it.
4. Quit smoking. Smoking is the single largest waste of money among lower income houses. It is hard to quit and for some people it might be almost impossible to quit. However, everyone can cut back on their smoking habit. For every single cigarette not smoked you save money.
Any program requires discipline and that applies to physical fitness as well as financial fitness. Do not over do it. If you put too many constraints on your spending you might come to resent it. Try to think of a single aspect of your spending that you can do without. Saving money can be difficult but it is critically important that it be done.
